In economics, generally, authors are ordered alphabetically rather than on their absolute or relative contribution to the paper.

Generally speaking, in economics you rarely find more than three authors on a paper.

Generally speaking, when referring to a paper with three or more authors the paper is cited as "Davis, et al." where "et al." is Latin for "all the other dopes with names that start after "D."

Generally speaking, given the last name starts with a "D" you would anticipate being up or at the front of most jointly authored papers.

I have found a combination of co-authors where my last name not only puts me in the "et al." but makes me the caboose.

We are putting the finishing touches on a working paper with the following authors on the title page:

John Chamblee, University of Georgia
Peter Colwell, University of Illinois
Carolyn Dehring, University of Georgia
Craig Depken, University of North Carolina - Charlotte
