Hypocrisy or pure politics?

How about this from the wikipedia page concerning George Bush's cabinet:

  • Bush's first nomination for Secretary of Labor was Linda Chavez. This nomination came under attack when evidence came to light that she had given money to an illegal immigrant from Guatemala who lived in her home.
  • The scandal was reminiscent of the scuttled nomination of Zoë Baird by Bill Clinton for Attorney General in 1993, however, and Chavez's nomination was withdrawn.
  • Kerik's nomination [for Secretary of Homeland Security] raised controversy when it was discovered that he had previously hired an undocumented worker as a nanny and housekeeper.

  • but from today's Associated Press:
Obama's team informed Baucus and Grassley of the problems in early December, and a subsequent investigation by their staffs unearthed another embarrassing detail about Geithner: that a housekeeper he employed in 2005 allowed her legal immigrant work status to lapse for three and a half months.

    From 2005 Salon:
Giving Bush a pass -- again

The D.C. press corps failed to ask hard questions about the inauguration's huge cost and its unprecedented security.

    and today's Daily Mail:
Barack Obama's inauguration is set to cost more than £100m making it the most expensive swearing-in ceremony in US history.

I tend to think that the Democrat party has few principles. It seems their primary principle is "everything is political." This is the only way to explain how individuals who make an "honest mistake" or "misspeak" are thrown out of their jobs or have their political careers ruined if they are on one side of the aisle (typically right of center) and are lauded or excused if they are on the other side of the aisle.

It is disgusting but probably true.
