Headlines in all directions?

Today's UB Daily newsletter has several seemingly conflicting headlines:

  • Colleges deal with overbooked freshman class (USA Today)
  • Colleges seek spending increases (The State Journal)
  • KU Chancelor: cuts would slice deep (Wichita Eagle)
  • Tuitions freeze across the USA (USA Today)
  • Hard economic times increasing junior college enrollment (KESQ.com)

  • Let's see: Overbooked freshman classes suggest the price of college is too low, but then colleges insist on freezing tuitions to make college more affordable, even while hard times are encouraging more people to go to college, even while state governments (such as Kansas) seek to cut higher education funding, even while colleges seek increased funding to deal with the increased demand.

    Interesting.
