Here's what you get to say when you have a Ph.D. in economics:
"With $4 gasoline, I think a lot of people are choosing other forms of entertainment," said sports business expert Craig Depken of Rangers fans. Dr. Depken is a former UT-Arlington professor who now teaches at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
To be honest, I had a lot more to say about this, specifically that the Rangers and other teams might be experiencing a decline in attendance because of fewer repeat attendees. This, in turn, requires teams to market to a broader geographic and demographic market so that they can increase the number of one and two-time visitors instead of relying on people to come to twenty or more games per season.
