A day that lives in infamy?

The words of FDR still ring strong for me but I wonder if more and more of us forget December 7 and replace with September 11. Two big events, December 7, 1941 and September 11, 2001, and there are a lot of similarities but some not so subtle differences. The biggest difference is our lack of total mobilization this time around. We have a professional standing army and the draft is something that losing politicians bring up in an attempt to scare-out the vote.

The late 1930s was a different time, but in my estimation Pearl Harbor, especially on the heels of the New Deal and the Depression, sealed the deal as far as government's role in our society. September 11, 2001, was yet another watershed moment.

We all have seen the devastating picture of the U.S.S. Arizona, but not too often do you see a "before" picture of the magnificent ship.
