The latest CRED Crunch Newsletter focuses on mortality data from extreme temperature events, i.e., heat wave and cold waves. More people die from heat waves than from cold waves, which I found interesting. More interesting is how woefully unprepared Europe is for heat. Granted, most of Europe lies several latitudes north of, say, Dallas, but I was amazed at how little air conditioning they have.
When we visited London in 2003, we were there when it was the hottest on record in the city 103F. Coming from Texas we weren't that concerned but the folks of London were stripping down to their skivvies and wading into any fountain they could find.
