The good folks over at Vision of Humanity have come out with their 2007 rankings of how peaceful nations are. The United States comes in at "low" although it is ranked 96 out of 121 (which would put the U.S. in the bottom 20% of all countries). The rankings consider how militaristic the country is, how involved (in percentage terms) the country is with UN and non-UN troop deployments, the odds of a terrorist attack and so forth.
I am not sure if the ranking is worth much considering how it is constructed, but I point it out for contemplation.
