UGA in the news

For giggles, I searched the New York Times historical archive for the term "university of georgia." Some interesting tidbitd:

  • From the April 2, 1852 NYT:
The University of Georgia has 175 students, of whom 151 are in actual attendance. There are two literary societies connected with the University - the Phi Kappa and the Demosthenian.
Here's Demosthenian Hall and Phi Kappa Hall, both on North Campus.

  • From the August 12, 1867 NYT:
...there are few places where a visit is more enjoyable than at Athens, where the ladies are more graceful and attractive, or where the men possess more of the qualities which constitute the genial gentleman.
    Amen.

    Comments:
University of Georgia was in the headlines here as well: "Western Kentucky upsets Georgia on the Road 70-67"
