A reason to vote Republican

If James Carville is honest about this statement:
"If we can't win in this environment, we have to question the whole premise of the party."
This might be the best reason to vote Republican that I have heard in a long time. If the Democrat party would return to the old-school liberal philosophy and pursue the economic policies of John Kennedy, the Democrat party would a) have a positive agenda, b) would no longer be the party of loss-minimization ("we'll make sure you don't lose worker rights, don't lose abortion rights, don't lose civil rights" - see a pattern there), c) would necessarily have to change their stance on global politics and national security (for the better), d) would steal a good proportion of the wayward Republicans and Libertarians.

Unfortunately, such a change would have to be legitimate. It would require a purge of many in the Democrat leadership because you can't convincingly change the platform with Kerry/Clinton/Kennedy and the like running around saying "I was for the war before I voted against it," and stuff like that.

Right now we have one party with two different squads - similar to a football team. We need a third party, but that won't happen anytime soon. Instead we can hope that one or the other parties decides to differentiate itself beyond the war on terror issue.

In my opinion, the Democrats make a little too much noise about impeaching Bush (for what it isn't clear) and this runs the risk of converting our three-branch government into a parliamentary system - where the Congress will simply impeach the president because they either don't like him or don't like his policies or the outcome of those policies. There are some benefits to the parliamentary system, but there are also a lot of benefits to our three-branch government and separation of powers and the limited ability to "recall" or "impeach" any single member of the three different branches.
