Roads as borders

Here's an interesting site that merges Califronia school quality data with Google maps.

Here's a capture of Bakersfield, CA:



Notice that to the east of CA-99 the schools are, for the most part, above average whereas to the west the schools are below average. I am sure most cities have similar patterns - I know that Arlington, TX does. Roads, of course, are not borders but rather often dilineate old/new developments which are often highly correlated with household income, parental involvement, and other inputs to education outcomes/school quality.
