Last week's Allstar Game cost several players thousands of dollars because they have to pay income taxes to the state which hosts their team even though the game was played in Texas (which doesn't have a state income tax). The Tax Foundation report does a pretty good job of outlining what's going on with the "Jock Taxes" and why they are likely to be inefficient but also why they are likely to expand.
Leviathan is one hungry beast and the report hints that the PGA might be the next sport targeted - I wouldn't doubt it.
I haven't any information on the incentive bonuses for playing in the Allstar Game, but I trust they more than make up for the tax liabilities.
Why does anyone play a professional sport in Illinois?
