Here is an interesting article on the content of public radio - less classical music and more talk. The author seems to suggest that we need more classical music on the radio for our cultural souls to be salved. Being more pragmatic, it is likely the case that the market for classical music - or any music for that matter - is losing the market battle with talk radio. Talk radio is actually more interesting and dynamic than Top 40 radio, Oldies radio, etc. Every time I turn on FM radio, I hear advertising and not music, so I flip back to the AM dial.
Perhaps our country will be worse off without classical music flowing through the ether, but the market doesn't seem to think so.
